Episcopal Safety Program
The Episcopal Safety Program is a comprehensive review of safety issues performed in person at a congregation by a qualified risk management individual. CIAC regional field representatives train the Safety Managers to use a standardized checklist, including physical inspection of the church and any affiliated buildings, a look at crisis management and relocation plans, a review of fiduciary practices, and issues in pastoral counseling and child care.
The Church Insurance Agency Corporation (CIAC) established the program in 2005. So far, 50 of the 80 dioceses covered by CIAC are participating. CIAC’s goal is inspect every Episcopal Church every five years.
Our diocesan Safety Manager is Michael Kline. Michael personally visits, inspects, and provides a written report of recommendations for about 20 congregations each year. Small fixes make a big difference. Contact Michael to schedule your visit.
