This month, the light of the Deacon Beacon points southeast-ward to Nogales, Arizona and Nogales, Sonora, Mexico to spotlight the worldly ministry of Deacon Jim Fitzsimmons at St. Andrew’s Children’s Clinic. The Clinic serves children who live in Mexico; its mission is “to provide free, specialized medical care to children who cannot get the care or afford the care they need in their home country.” The clinic is held every month, except July, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Nogales, Arizona where Fitzsimmons serves as deacon. There are about 250 patients each month.

Chaos: Charlotte, North Carolina

October 28, 2016

The Union of Black Episcopalians - National

WCharlotte unrest webe have had over a week of violence and protest in this city of Charlotte, NC. WHY? Again, a black male was shot and killed by the police, the details of the shooting are known all over the country, this time it is in my own back yard and people are tired of this systemic racism!

I do not condone the violence that destroyed many businesses in uptown Charlotte because those companies had nothing to do directly with the rioting in the area. It was the police shooting and killing of another black male that was the cause. Unfortunately, many of the people that participated in the violence were not native Charlotteans.
