History
The first service of St. Wilfred was held in 1959 after thirty-six persons signed the petition to become an organized mission. In 1962 the present church building was erected. Also on the campus is a church office (in the former rectory) and a Ministry Center which houses two parish/fellowship halls, a kitchen, conference room, youth and Christian Formation rooms, and during the week, our NAEYC (National Association of the Education of Young Children) accredited St. Wilfred Preschool.
Eight rectors have enriched the parish and in June 2013 we welcomed The Rev. Virginia Herring as the Pastor. St. Wilfred has been blessed by priests, deacons and laypersons whom God has called to carry forward our mission of sharing his love. In October, 2009 we celebrated our 50th anniversary as St. Wilfred Episcopal Church.
TODAY
Celebrating and Sharing God’s Love in the Community
Today St. Wilfred is much more a family of people drawn from the Sarasota/Bradenton, FL area than the buildings we occupy. We are an increasingly more diverse group where there is heart-felt worship, relevant teaching, honest friendships, constant prayer and compassionate care for those in need. We recognize that we are recipients of God’s grace, and together we strive to embrace the presence of God in the world as we embrace the presence of God in one another.
Our desire is to meet you where you are. For some, that means finding a relationship with God for the first time. For others, strengthening their faith and meeting life-long friends who genuinely care for one another. We encourage you to join us in being used by God to help others find help, hope and a home. We invite you to catch the faith that we celebrate here!
